The ICC Futures tournament is rolling into Semi-Finals on December 14th at the IMG Academy in Florida
In a re-match of last year’s ECNL championship match, LAFC Slammers faced off against East Coast powerhouse PDA on Thursday December 12th during ICC Futures group play.
PDA topped LAFC Slammers in the ECNL final 3-2 earlier this year. This match, however, was dominated by LAFC Slammers whistle-to-whistle. LAFC Slammers came away with a 2-0 win.
Before the match, LAFC owner, USWNT legend, and past Slammers coach Mia Hamm visited with the team:
From the ICC Futures game recap:
“Right from the start, LAFC looked to capitalize on their opponents and scored both their goals within the opening 20 minutes of the match.
“The first goal came just seconds into the game when the ball travelled into open space within the box and Jessica Ramirez was able to take a one time shot, curling the ball around defenders and into the net.
The second was another example of the team forcing themselves into space.
“Around the seventeen minute mark, LAFC crossed the ball into the box hoping to find an open head but the attempt was misplaced. Fortunately enough, Cindy Conner was able to run into open space, find the right angle and poke the ball past the keeper. “
Next up: Barcelona
LAFC Slammers’ next game will be what the ICC Futures tournament is all about. They will face Barcelona in the Semi-Final on Friday.
Barcelona has produced global powerhouse female players for Spain, in particular Clàudia Pina. Pina is widely regarded as a rising star for Spanish women’s soccer and global women’s soccer.
