On August 18th the CONCACAF group stage parings of national teams for the the upcoming Olympic qualifying games in Rio de Janeiro was announced.
The U.S Men’s Olympic team was matched with Canada, Cuba and Panama in Group A.
The U.S. is looking to better its 2011 campaign when they finished in third-place behind El Salvador and Canada. The last time the U.S. Men’s soccer team participated at an Olympic tournament was in the Olympics hosted in Beijing in 2008.
The U.S. will start off against Canada on October the 1st at Sporting Park. The next matches will take place on October the 3rd against Cuba at Sporting Park and October 6th against Panama at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
The CONCACAF region is granted two-and-a-half berths into the Olympics. This means that the two finalists are automatically qualified while the third place will face off against Colombia in a one-game playoff.
