At one point mid-way through the second half the score was 3 – 1 to the Netherlands, yet the Americans were able to come back and finish the game with a victory, their first win against the Dutch.

The hosts thought they had the victory in their hands when the score was 3 -1 and eased off the gas more than they should have, leaving the way open for U.S. strikers to do their job, and it backfired the “orange machine”. The U.S. was able to come comeback showing an incredible thirst for the win.

The first goal of the game was for Netherlands with Huntelaar in the 27th minute of the first half. Then at 33 minutes, the LA Galaxy and California native Gyasi Zardes scored for the U.S. On the second half of the game, with 49 minutes on the clock, Huntelaar scored once again with a header very similar to his first goal. A couple minutes later in the 53rd minute Huntelaar took a shot and it deflected off of Memphis Depay to give the Netherlands an advantage of 2 goals. With 70 minutes to go, John Brooks narrowed the gap by scoring the second goal for the U.S. In the 89th minute Williams scores from inside the box the goal that tied the game and in the 90th minute, just as the game was winding down, Bobby Wood took the opportunity after a mistake from De Jong to score the U.S. a 4th and last goal of the match.

Even Robin van Persie admitted that this did not happen by luck or chance, he says:

Now the Netherlands will face Latvia on June 12th for the European 2016 qualifier. Unfortunately for them, they will not go into the match with the result they were excepting and probably not the same level of confidence they had before when they beat Spain by 2 – 0. This game against Latvia however, is much more important for the Netherlands to win compared with an international friendly match.

The USMNT faces the last World Cup winner, Germany, on June 10th with a lot of confidence going into this match. Even though they came out with a victory, hopefully they will look back to what they need to improve for the next game and work on that
