The Turf Controversy over the Women’s World Cup continues

It is amazing to see how many fans actually showed up to the U.S. matches in Canada for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. It almost looks and feels like they U.S. is playing at home.

One of the reasons for that is the proximity between the two countries, even though there are people from all over the U.S., even states like Florida and Texas, in Canada right now.

If you think about it, fan support makes a remarkable difference not only for the home team but also for the away team if there is a big crowd cheering. It creates fear and tension for the away team and boosts confidence and gives energy to the home team. All the chants and cheer from the American fans can be heard from the Television stream.

All of the U.S. players feel the same way, and really appreciate the support from all of the fans that made it there.

[quote_box_center]“It’s unbelievable. I can’t believe – I mean we’re just in Canada, so it’s not too far for everyone to go. But it makes such a difference to look up [from the field] and just see red, white, and blue everywhere,” agreed defender Becky Sauerbrunn. “The crowd was unreal, and it just really lifts our spirits up. I’m not sure if they really understand the impact they have on the game, but it’s really [like] having a 12th man out there. It was unbelievable, the support we’ve been getting here.”[/quote_box_center]

Many thought that after the last Men’s World Cup in 2014, the U.S. soccer viewership would go down whenever that event was over. However, this Women’s World Cup is proving them wrong.

[quote_box_left]“I’m here because I’m a big fan of U.S. Soccer, specifically the Women’s team,” said another fan, who traveled from Dallas to Canada to support the team. “And why not come to a World Cup? It’s just a great atmosphere.”[/quote_box_left]

This support from the fans has definitely influenced results and helped the U.S. going through the group stage, as the number of fans for the opposing teams was not nearly enough compared to the U.S. Now the players hope they can continue to receive this amazing support from the fans as they continue the fight.
