SAN DIEGO – The New York Cosmos of the NASL have signed defender Alexis Velela, a young prospect from California.
In an effort to continue to their long term plan of strengthening their back line, the Cosmos announced today, August 10th, that they signed San Diego Surf and U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team Alexis Velela. The defender has been a part of the Youth National Team since 2011. Alexis is another example of a player who transitioned from their competitive club teams straight to a professional club.

Alexis is a 17 year old,San Diego native who can play multiple roles as a central defender, full back and central midfielder. In the 2015 CONCACAF U-17 Championship, Alexis started every single game for the U-17 team, and is expected next to be part of the roster for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile that is coming up. The California native should be joining the new club after the World Cup ends.
