Colorado Rush enters the back half of their United Premier League Soccer (UPSL) season as they will be away facing FC Boulder for the second time this season. FC Boulder has had an up and down season and sit right in the middle of the Colorado conference and Rush still sits alone on the top and still have yet to drop an L this season.
This is an extremely important game for Rush as they are now less than two weeks out from their Open Cup match up. This game is a good chance for Rush coach Joe Webb to get some final looks at players and for players to make certain that they are in full form going into the Open Cup match but FC Boulder will not make it easy on them.
The first time these two teams met, Rush came out on top with a 2-0 score line that while a convincing win, didn’t tell the whole story of the game. Rush fount the net twice in the first half against Boulder and went into the half up 2-0. The second half was Boulders as they peppered Rush keeper Shailer Thomas for the better part of the second 45 but were unable to sneak anything past Thomas.
This time around Rush will not have their two goal scorers from the first match Griff Dorsey and Ben Gaido who are both unavailable for the game. This should prove to be a non factor as Rush midfielder Colin Clark notched a hat trick last match and Rush forward Andrew White is hungry to get back on the score line following a two-week drought.
Rush captain Nic Hartman was battling a hamstring injury earlier in the season but looks to be back in full form. Youngster Ryan Wilson was brought up from the academy three weeks ago and has now made himself a fixture in the Rush back line which has proved to be impenetrable recently.
After playing seven games, Rush has really found a rhythm will their pace of play and the players on the squad. They are much more familiar and comfortable with how one another are playing and each player is looking very confident right now in the role that they have on the team.
FC Boulder is not out of the race for the top three spots in the Colorado conference yet and with a win they would find themselves sitting in fourth right behind Colorado Springs FC. They did give Rush a run for their money in their first game but were just a bit unlucky to not find the back of the net. Boulder still has the back half of the season to go as well and could start reeling in the top teams if they can link together some wins.
This is also an exciting weekend for the Colorado Rush Women’s United Premier Soccer League(WUPSL) as they will have their first in conference exhibition match against the FC Boulder. This will be the second time that the women’s team has laced them up in a match together but the first time they will have had the opportunity to play a conference rival before the season kicks off this fall.
Both of these games will be April 30th at Fairview High School in Boulder, CO The UPSL Rush men will kick off at 4pm followed by the women’s WUPSL exhibition game that will kick off at 6pm.
