We all have one-but it often collects dust in the corner. The foam roller is one of the least used pieces of equipment in the gym, in fact many gyms will not even offer one. But when used correctly this piece of equipment can be extremely effective in the recovery of an athlete.

A proper foam rolling routine can help athletes reach their health and fitness goals. Simply by using their own body weight on the rolls, they’ll be reducing pain and tension, and restoring normal muscle length and balance. Muscle balance helps to provide optimum joint motion leading to increased performance.

I recommend carrying the foam roller with you to practice and to games and it can be used both before and after. They can be purchased for under $25 in most retailers.
