Following a loss for Tijuana and Pumas last week, both sides will be charging into Sunday’s clash with three points in mind.

At the moment, Xolos appear to have a slight upper-hand. The team has more goals than any other Liga MX side, and before the recent 2-1 defeat by Necaxa, Tijuana was on a four-game winning streak. Despite the loss last Friday, Xolos are still in an impressive position at second place in the league standings.

As for Pumas, this Sunday’s hosts were also on fine form until the 2-0 loss to Monterrey last Saturday. Before the match, the Mexico City squad was quickly gaining points through a four-game undefeated streak. Unfortunately for Pumas, this momentum was immediately halted by Monterrey during Week 6.

This Sunday’s match won’t be easy for Tijuana manager Miguel “Piojo” Herrera. Although he does have a slight advantage with his team’s recent domination in the league, it’s important to bring up the fact that Pumas have yet to lose at home this season.

Like so many other Liga MX sides this year, Pumas shouldn’t be taken lightly either. An option like Nicolas Castillo — who has two goals and one assist in his last four starts — is likely to test Xolos goalkeeper Gibran Lajud.

Key to success for Tijuana:
Shutting down Castillo and Barrera

Xolos might have an impressive tally of goals, but Pumas are currently the league-leaders when it comes to shots on target. With Pablo Barrera and Castillo leading the team’s attacking opportunities on net, Tijuana will need to make sure to stifle their presence and impact on Sunday.

Xolos player to watch:
Joe Corona

The midfielder was one of the few players to emerge from last week’s loss with a good performance. Corona has done an excellent job of working with fellow central midfielder Guido Rodriguez, and has become a key component in Tijuana’s attack.

Considering his growing confidence, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he steps up this Sunday.

Predicted score:
Pumas 2-2 Tijuana
