Memorial Day weekend is filled with soccer tournaments, especially in sunny San Diego. Partnered with English Premier League giant Manchester City, Surf Cup Sports hosted their third annual Manchester City Cup this past Memorial Day weekend. Once again, Surf Cup Sports adhered to their reputation as one of the most influential and recognized youth sporting event organizers in the nation, with an impeccable tournament featuring boys’ and girls’ teams competing from U8 all the way up to U19.

The tournament not only features the best of Southern California soccer, but includes teams from all of over the country and an International Super Group, making the tournament an impressive sight of the beautiful game to see.

With such a prestigious tournament being held in San Diego, Presidio Soccer League was sure to represent. Check out Presidio’s member teams that defeated the top competition from all over the nation… the big winner this year? Total Futbol Academy took a total of four championship trophies this year.

BOYS U8 GOLD
TOTAL FUTBOL ACADEMY B09

The boys started off the tournament with a huge 9-1 win over DE ANZA FORCE 09B I (CAN), followed by an even more impressive 0-14 shut out against SAN DIEGO FORCE SD FORCE 2009 ACADEMY (CAS). The boys then defeated PATEADORES IRVINE I (CAS) 8-1, sending them to semi-final where they defeated LEON B2009 LEON (CAS) 9-1. Although DE ANZA FORCE 09B I (CAN) was looking to redeem themselves to win the title, the TFA boys buckled down and were crowned champions after a 6-5 victory.

BOYS U9 GOLD

The boys started off the tournament with a 5-1 win over DE ANZA FORCE 08B I (CAN), followed by a 3-1 win over FC GOLDEN STATE B2008 (CAS). The boys then shut out WASATCH WRT NAVY B08 (UT) 0-9, sending them to the semi-final where they shut out LA GALAXY SAN DIEGO /MEDINA (CAS) 0-7. The boys continued their shut out streak and defeated SAN DIEGO SURF ACADEMY BOYS SELECT 2008 (CAS) 0-3 to win the Manchester City Cup.

The boys started off the tournament with a bang with a 14-0 shut out against SPORTING SAN DIEGO B07 GARCIA (CAS), followed by a 0-8 shut out against GLENDALE FC RED (CAS).  The boys then defeated CELTIC ST. PATRICK PRE-ACADEMY (CAS) 2-1, sending them to the semi finals were they defeated REBELS ACADEMY BOYS ELITE 2007 (CAS) 4-6. The boys finished off the tournament with a 2-1 victory over TOTAL FUTBOL ACADEMY B2007 (CAS), winning the title of champions.

The boys started off the tournament with a 3-1 win over SCOTTSDALE SC 06B BLACKHAWKS CHAPMAN (AZ), followed by a 4-1 win over SAN DIEGO SC B2006 USSDA NAVY1 (CAS). The boys then shut out HEAT FC 06 AC (NV) 0-9, sending them to the semi finals where they shut out PALO ALTO SC 06B ERT (CAN) 2-0. The boys were then crowned champions after defeating SAN DIEGO SURF USSDA BOYS 06 (HENDERSON) (CAS), 1-0.

BOYS U13 SILVER
ESCONDIDO FC HEAT BLUE

The boys started off the tournament with a 1-1 tie against LA GALAXY SD B04 ELITE/DORLEAN (CAS), followed by 0-4 win against LA GALAXY SD B04 ELITE/DORLEAN (CAS). The boys then defeated STAR ACADEMY FC 04B I (CAN) 1-0, sending them to the semi-final where they defeated LA GALAXY OC B04 PREMIER GAMBLE (CAS) 2-3. The boys finished off the tournament with a 0-1 victory over SERENO 04 BOYS CHELSEA WHITE (AZ), earning the title of champions.

GIRLS U14 SILVER
SAN DIEGO SC G03 ORANGE

The girls started off the tournament with a 4-0 win against ALMADEN FC QUICKSLIVER 03G NPL (CAN) only to repeat the victory against SAN DIEGO SURF G03 ACADEMY SELECT CONDLIFFE (CAS). The girls then tied 0-0 against WESTSIDE BREAKERS GIRLS 2003 WHITE (CAS), but still advanced to the semi final where they shut out NOTTS FOREST FC NFFC G2003 RED (CAS) 3-0. The girls then claimed their title of champions with a 4-1 victory over SGV SURF G03 MB/HH (CAS).

GIRLS U16 GOLD
REBELS SC G01/02 ELITE
Head Coach: Ryan Marquez

The girls started off the tournament with a 3-0 win over ARIZONA THUNDER 01G BAYERN ELITE (AZ), followed by a 3-0 shut out over PALO ALTO SC 01G BLUE (CAN). The girls then defeated DMCV SHARKS G01 ARNESEN (CAS) 1-3, sending them to the semi final where they defeated SAN DIEGO SURF EGSL ACADEMY 2001 (CAS) 3-0. The girls finished off the tournament with an exciting 2-3 victory over SANTA MONICA UNITED SMU G01 (CAS), earning the title of champions.
