USL is back!
United Soccer League headquarters have announced a “provisional” start date of July 11th for USL Championship play.
Will fans be allowed? Will games be broadcast? What about clubs in areas that are still operating under local governments’ COVID-19 lockdown policies?
SoccerNation reached out to San Diego Loyal Soccer Club. Here is what we know so far:
SN: Is the team training now?
SD Loyal: Yes, small groups
SN: Do we know anything about a game on July 11? The opponent? A location
SD Loyal: Not at the moment
SN: Will there be fans in-person? TV?
SD Loyal: No decisions have been made
SN: When do you expect a schedule and more info to be released?
SD Loyal: More details will be announced in the coming weeks when those items are finalized
MLS clubs can return to training
In the meantime, Major League Soccer announced today that teams can begin the process to return to team training:
Similar to the “Game On San Diego” initiative, teams will have to submit their safety plans to the league and to local officials for review and approval.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has still not responded to San Diego’s “Game On” plan to return youth sports to the practice field.
