From SC del Sol to the Women’s World Cup – Sydney Leroux

On May 30th The U.S. Women’s National Team will play against Korea Republic at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey, as their last game in preparation for the 2015 World Cup.

In the past two friendly matches against Ireland and Canada, the Americans have had favorable results, winning 3-1 against Ireland and 5-1 against Mexico. Athough these results are positive, the team still feels that they have room for improvement.

As far as the World Cup goes, the U.S. team is definitely one of the favorites. The majority of the team is composed with experienced players like Abby Wambach, Shannon Boxx and of course Hope Solo, but they are also bringing some new and fresh faces, like Julie Johnston and Christen Press. Wambach has shown she is still in incredible shape and is ready for this World Cup event, recently reached a record during the friendly match against Mexico, becoming the world’s all-time goal-scorer with 181st and 182nd international goals.

Alex Morgan, who is such a critical piece in the U.S. offense is coming off of an injury layover, so now Wambach needs to find chemistry with someone else up front as Morgan is eased back in. In the recent match against mexico, Sydney Leroux was partnered with Wambach and the partnership looks formidable. Expect Leroux and Wambach to start up top for the US in Canada. What worries many fans is that Alex Morgan has been having a tough year with all the injuries, and has been out of many games. She is such an important player, everyone wants to see her back in time for the event.

We will soon see if this U.S. squad has what it takes to win this World Cup.
