LA Galaxy II (12-8-3, 39 points) earned a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Austin Aztex on Saturday night at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex, the new home for the USL club in Texas. Two goals by Jack McBean and one from Bradley Diallo were enough to earn three points on the road.
Both of the Aztex’ goals came in the first half as Trevin Caesar found his eighth goal of the season in the 27th minute. Minutes later, a handball would be called on defender Joe Franco inside the 18. Fernando San Feliz would net the PK for Austin, making it a two-goal lead to close the first half.
After defender Oscar Sorto drew a foul in the attacking half, Los Dos capitalized on a set piece. Joining LA Galaxy II from Brazilian side Fluminense, Bryan Olivera took the free kick and earned an assist in the 61st minute to find Jack McBean, who would chip a beautiful ball over the Austin goalkeeper, Perales, to put LA on the scoreboard and within one.
In the 87th minute, Bradley Diallo would find his second goal of the season to tie the match late in the game. His shot took a deflection in the six-yard box and found the back of the net.
As the clock ran into extra time, Los Dos found a dramatic game winner. LA Galaxy Academy product Rey Ortiz found Jack McBean, wide open in the six-yard box, to head the ball past Perales, earning his fifth goal of the season.
This result puts Galaxy II just two points out of first place in the Western Conference standings.
The next match will feature a doubleheader of LA Galaxy vs NYCFC on Sunday, August 23 at 12 p.m. PT at StubHub Center followed by Los Dos against Seattle Sounders FC 2 after the MLS match.
