Orange County Blues FC defender Jefrey Payeras has been called up to the Guatemala U-23 National Team participating in the qualification for the 2015 CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship.

Payeras will play in games on August 11th and 13th against Honduras and Belize, respectively, in Guatemala City as part of Group B in the Central American Zone. Should they win the group, or come in 2nd place and defeat the 2nd place team from Group A in a two-legged repechage playoff, Guatemala would advance to participate in the 2015 CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship, hosted by the United States October 1st-13th, 2015.

“The entire coaching staff is very pleased for Jefrey’s call up to the Guatemala U-23 National Team. He has been continuously improving over the last 2 months and the call up is a well deserved reward for Jefrey!” – Head Coach Oliver Wyss.

The 6’2” defender joined the Blues this season on loan from C.S.D. Municipal in Guatemala, and has started all nine matches he’s appeared in, recording two assists. Holding dual citizenship in the United States and Guatemala, Payeras previously played for the U.S. U-20 National Team back in 2013.

The Blues host Austin Aztex this Saturday, August 8th, at UCI’s Anteater Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT.
