Since before the 2019 Women’s World Cup even began, the question has been asked over and over. Could Alyssa Naeher come out of Hope Solo’s shadow? Through the group round and first two knock-out games, Naeher was tested. But only slightly. The questions still lingered.

After all, Hope Solo had won the “Golden Glove” (best goalkeeper) for the last two Women’s World Cups. She was widely regarded as the best goal keeper in the world for a generation. Could Naeher fill those shoes (cleats)?

New keeper, who dis?

Then came the USA’s Semifinal against #3 ranked England with a ticket to the World Cup final on the line. If any doubters remained even after Naeher’s stunning full-stretch save in the 33rd minute, they were silenced in the 84th minute when Naeher saved a would-be game-tying penalty kick.

America doesn’t have to hope for a great goalkeeper. The US Women’s National Team undoubtedly has a goalie to rely on for the July 7th Women’s World Cup Final, and her name is Alyssa Naeher.
