Atlanta United are the reigning Major League Soccer champions.
Both teams, as well as a host of other top international clubs, are sending their 2005 boys’ teams to compete in the 2019 Nexen Man City Cup International Super Group in San Diego over Memorial Day weekend.

Man City Cup began less than a decade ago. Since then, the event has claimed a spot among top youth international tournaments. Univision Desportes and ESPN noticed. Both media outlets will be setting up shop at the 2019 “International Super Group.” Coverage will begin Thursday May 23. The championship game at high noon on Monday May 27th will be the grand finale of the televised games. CLICK HERE for the full television and streaming schedule.

Many youth tournaments feature live streams with a camera or two. The televised and streamed games at Man City Cup will look more like an EPL, Liga MX or MLS game. There will be sideline reporters, multiple cameras, play-by-play and color commentary, and huge production trailers usually seen outside major sporting events.

International Super Group

Teams from around the world will battle for the championship. B2005 teams from Australia, England, Mexico, and the US will have the rare opportunity to see how they stack up against talented teams from around the world.

LAFC looking to repeat

One team fighting for the 2019 championship is LAFC. The LAFC 2005 boys were champions at Man City Cup in 2018. The trophies LAFC youth teams won at Man City Cup 2018 are on proud display at the LAFC headquarters — the first trophies earned by the club. This year, the 2005 team will be on the big stage. Their age group is this year’s “International Super Group.” LAFC currently sits atop the USSDA Western Conference, Southwest Division. They have racked up a staggering +76 goal differential through DA play so far this season. Undoubtedly, they will be eager to see how their game play matches up against top international teams they have never played before.

Playing at an impressive venue

Youth teams competing in Man City Cup’s other divisions are in for a wonderful weekend as well. Both venues, Surf Cup Sports Park in Del Mar and the So Cal Sports Complex in Oceanside, are setting up for a weekend of great soccer and entertainment. If you are part of a team competing at Man City Cup, plan to give yourself lots of extra time at your venue. This weekend will not be the normal soccer weekend of park-warmup-play-leave-repeat. The huge stadium at the Oceanside complex, on your left as you enter, will showcase great soccer all weekend long. Give yourself some extra time to watch a game or two on that field.

The EPL trophy, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup will be there, too.

In addition to the great soccer, Man City is bringing the hardware. The EPL trophy, the FA Cup, and the Carabao Cup will all be in San Diego. The trophies will be in Del Mar on Saturday May 25th and Oceanside on Sunday May 26th. Be sure to stop by and get a photo taken with the trophies.

From everyone at SoccerNation, best of luck to all of the teams competing in Man City Cup 2019.
