This season, it has been near impossible to predict anything regarding Liga MX. In a tournament where upsets have become the norm, Tijuana has weaved in and out of several entertaining clashes in 2017. Although it’s hard to anticipate any results or scores, this weekend, we might have the privilege to see another exciting 90 minutes involving Xolos.

Following Tijuana’s recent 1-0 win over Queretaro, Xolos should be fully motivated to garner another three points against Chiapas on Saturday. With the playoffs now just around the corner, Tijuana should be aiming to collect another win that will move the club one step closer to the Liguilla.

Can Los Jaguares stop Xolos?

On paper, it appears unlikely. Although Chiapas are more than capable to provide some surprises in the attack, the team’s defense is one of the worst in the league. In fact, in the last six games, Los Jaguares have allowed a total of 14 goals.

With a red-hot Aviles Hurtado currently leading Tijuana’s attack, and a few other noteworthy members in support, Xolos will be keen on racking up a few goals this weekend. However, considering the injury to Michael Orozco, and a recent red for backup Juan Carlos Nuñez, Tijuana might run into some defensive problems of its own.

Throw in Chiapas’ worrisome role in the relegation race and you get a match that could be one of the most thrilling in the Liga MX weekend.

Key to success for Tijuana — Overload the attack

As simple as this may seem, it might be Tijuana’s most practical approach against Chiapas’ porous backline. Names like Paul Arriola and Hurtado should seek to sneak past the opposition’s defense with speed while others like Milton Caraglio will be crucial off crosses and set pieces.

It might get ugly with Tijuana’s backline, but a very attack-minded approach that could lead to a few early goals is optimal.

Xolos player to watch — Hiram Muñoz and Carlos Vargas

A bit unfair to include both players, but these are two inexperienced and young Mexican defenders who are key to Xolos’ survival in this match. As long as Muñoz and Vargas have a decent performance in the backline, Tijuana should easily be set for three points against Chiapas.

Predicted score — Chiapas 2-3 Tijuana

Who knows what will happen, but I’m anticipating goals and plenty of them. I’m even considering a 4-2 win for Xolos, but we will have to wait and see.
