To the delight of fans worldwide the Premier League has kicked off another season.  With the level of world class talent on display in the English league, any serious soccer aficionado will be following closely.  Being the world’s most popular league, it has players represented from over 50 countries.  More top players ply their trade in “The Prem” than any other. Here is the shortlist of American players rostered for Premier League teams.

Chelsea

The biggest name in the Premier League representing the United States is none other than Christian Pulisic.  There has never been an American player with more promise. Teammates have been known to call him Captain America.  He is no doubt the most exciting player our country has and is becoming a household name around the footballing world.  There is a belief that he has not yet reached his full potential. That is impressive because his form with Chelsea has been superb since he joined from Borussia Dortmund. He is worth watching as this could be his best season yet.

Newcastle United

Deandre Yedlin has played 103 matches for Premier League side Newcastle United.  The former Seattle Sounder has been successful for the Magpies.  Though not a European power like Chelsea, Newcastle are grinding it out against teams of the highest level week in and week out.  At 27, he should be at his prime.  It would be great to see him in top form and giving the U.S. National Team the quality right back it needs to compete against the world’s best.

Aston Villa

Indiana Vassilev is one to keep an eye on. At just 19 years old, he has represented the US Youth National Teams and impressed.  Though not as well known as other American youngsters don’t be surprised to see him excel in the Premier League and to get called up to the Senior National Team in the near future.

Fulham

Defender Tim Ream played the full match at Center Back for Fulham in their league opener against Arsenal.  Another season playing at this level is a great opportunity for him to measure up against world class talent.  Antonee Robinson, who has seven caps with the US National Team is also at Fulham.  The London club have a tradition of Americans on their roster over the years.  American National Team standouts Clint Dempsey, Brian McBride and Carlos Bocanegra all played for the Cottagers.

Other Notables…

There are a few more fringe players in the Premiership. Cameron Carter-Vickers of Tottenham Hotspur has yet to lock down a spot in the top flight and will need to prove himself capable to make the roster in the 2020-2021 season.  Zach Steffen has a similar task with his recent move to Manchester City. It remains to be seen if either of these players will get minutes this season.

More players needed…

The US Mens National Team will benefit from more players getting regular minutes in the Premier League. It’s the most challenging league to get into as the talent pool consists of the best players in the world.  For our National Team to be more successful we need players at top European Clubs and The Premier league has just that.  This list is too short. Hopefully, we see more Americans plying their trade in the Premier League int eh near future.  For now, keep an eye on the few we have and enjoy the season.  It will not disappoint.
