On opening day at the Banc of California Stadium the reigning MLS MVP conjured up a goal worthy of that title. After getting past 4 Inter Miami defenders Vela had the wherewithal to lift the ball over the Inter Miami goalkeeper. The 18 yard chip proved to be the games only goal. Chants of MVP could be heard around the stadium. And for good reason. Last year Carlos had the most offensive output of any player in the MLS. And on his 31st birthday he showed that he is candidate to repeat as league MVP.
David Beckhams Inter Miami need credit as well. They were well organized and should be encouraged by the performance. No doubt they could find their inaugural season a challenging one. Many expansions sides have struggled in the past. Today Inter Miami had a respectable display forcing LAFC new goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer into 6 saves as he earned Man of the Match honors.

LAFC have gone from strength to strength since joining the league 3 years ago. Last week they qualified for the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions league over the top Mexican side Leon. Next up in that competition is Mexican side Cruz Azul on March 12th at the Banc of California Stadium. Then comes the daunting trip for the away leg in Mexico City March 18th. LAFC are not in top form as of yet but are getting the early results needed to claim trophies they are desperate to get. The MLS Championship would be the next step after winning the Supporters Shield in 2020. LAFC has one of the best atmospheres in the league led by the raucous and vibrant support section known famously as the 3252. This LAFC team is trending early toward the team to beat as they chase more silverware in 2020.
