Colorado Rush currently sits tied for first place with Indios Denver FC in the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) Colorado conference with 14 points a piece.
With a record of 4-1-2 for the fall season, Rush is looking strong through the halfway point.
The season has been an interesting one for the boys in blue; dropping the season opener on a last second goal, falling to Indios giving them their only loss of the season. They had a game winning goal against Colorado Springs FC taken away from them because a fan decided they needed to run out on the field and disrupt the match, that ended in a tie. The cherry on the top was their second meeting with Springs FC over Columbus Day weekend where a freak snowstorm slid into Colorado Springs and Rush had to take the field with only 11 men; two of which were goalies (only one played in net) and still managed a 1-0 victory.
September also marked the start of U.S. Open Cup qualifying as well and Rush took care of their business and sent Club El Azul packing, as Rush sets their sights on Azteca FC in the second round of qualifiers.
The Colorado conference appears to be flipped on its head this season, with some of the playoff teams from the spring, searching for air at the tail end of the group. In turn, the surprise of the season has been Indios; who have already doubled their win tally from the spring season and have more points midway through the fall session than they did at the end of the spring.
FC Greeley is one of the teams that seems to be stuck with a “hangover” from last season when they made the playoffs but were bounced in the first round by FC Boulder in a heartbreaker.
Rush and Greeley will meet for the first time since the spring season, which has “trap game” for Rush written all over this one. Greeley sits in second to last place in the conference and has only found a single win this fall. Each previous match between these two clubs has been a battle and despite the vastly different records, I expect nothing different in this match.
These two clubs are set to meet on October 14th at District 6 Stadium in Greeley. Kickoff for the match is at 6pm.
