On the heels of a very successful inaugural United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) season for the Colorado conference, the women are kicking off the first ever Women’s United Premier Soccer League (WUPSL) Colorado conference this fall.
There will be four teams to start this conference with Colorado Rush being one of them and one that other teams will surely be on the look out for. It has been a process getting the league going and the ladies have been practicing and competing in exhibitions for a few months now leading up to the start of this fall season.
Rush will square off against FC Boulder in this match which will be tough battle for both sides. Rush, as always, has a very talented and experienced squad that will be looking to start the season off with a W.
Rush’s Katy Oehring took a few minutes to chat about the WUPSL and what they are expecting the season to look like for the fall.
SoccerNation: Tell me a little bit about your soccer background and major accomplishments along the way?
Oehring: “Grew up in Littleton, CO playing during my early developmental years with Rush. I attended Boise State University, a Division I program in the MWC. Named Second Team All Conference in 2012 and First Team All Conference in 2013. I was also named to the Mountain West All-Tournament team my senior year in 2013. Following college, I played semi-pro for Colorado Pride in the W-League for two seasons, where we competed in the W-League National Championship match in 2015. Beginning in May of 2016, I found myself back where it all started, with the Colorado Rush. Looking forward to compete with the Rush women’s team in the WUPSL.”
SoccerNation: This is the first season for WUPSL Colorado conference, what are your expectations for this first campaign?
Oehring: “This is a very exciting time for women’s soccer in Colorado! I think it will be such great opportunity for talented women soccer players who wish to compete at a high level. There will certainly be challenges and it will take time grow this league, but there is definitely no shortage of talented players. Rush can’t wait to get things kicked off and enjoy this inaugural season!”
SoccerNation: Your squad has been practicing together for a while now and have had a few exhibition matches, do you feel like you’ve had a solid chance to get familiar with each other and learn how to play together?
Oehring: “I think we are just hitting the tip of the iceberg and there’s still so much to learn about each other, but we are all very eager to continue to bond and grow to be a strong, cohesive team! We all have the same goal, now it’s just about knowing each others tendencies.”
Soccernation: Do you have any pre game rituals that you always do before a match?
Oehring: “As a team or individual?”
“Team: Not yet! But I’m sure this will come as we get into season.”
“Individual: Nope, I’m not a very superstitious person. Listen to good music I guess, but never the same songs.”
Kickoff for this match is set for 7pm on September 10th at Shea Stadium following the men’s match up against FC Boulder. This is a great chance to come out and support the first ever WUPSL match in CO!
