What happened in the weekend that was in soccer? We’ve got some of the big stories to help you stay on top of the water cooler talk — assuming the water cooler talk is absolutely awesome.
Galaxy’s struggles continue
It wasn’t all bad for the LA Galaxy on Saturday, as they did in fact pick up a point at home, after losing at StubHub Center in embarrassing fashion the week before. But this draw, a 0-0 result against the Philadelphia Union, perhaps damned LA with faint praise. Not only are the Union the only winless team left in MLS, but the Galaxy couldn’t even get a goal scored on the night, with a scoreless run now stretching to 187 minutes in league play (Joao Pedro’s shot bouncing off both posts and harmlessly away against the Union an agonizing close call), and a spot just above the Western Conference basement.
We’ve only seen two months pass in the current MLS season, and the Galaxy, and others, have gotten out of similarly poor form to finish the campaign strong and even lift trophies come season’s end. But at the moment, there appears to be the sinking feeling that this isn’t 2012, or 2014, for the Galaxy, and the current run may be more representative of the team’s true form than any partisan would like to admit.
Morgan, Lyon through to Champions League final
Over in Europe, Diamond Bar native Alex Morgan reached the UEFA Women’s Champions League final over the weekend, as Lyon held off Carli Lloyd and Manchester City in the semifinal second leg. Morgan came off the bench at halftime for Lyon, who will face fellow French giants Paris Saint-Germain on June 1 in the Champions League final in Cardiff, Wales.

If Morgan plays in the final, and if Lyon win, she’ll be the first American to win the Women’s Champions League under the current format, which began in 2009, and she’ll be the first to take the European club crown since Gina Lewandowski and Ali Krieger did with Frankfurt in 2008. But first, that final hurdle against PSG in a month’s time.
Deltas’ Peiser does more than just play
Public marriage proposals are not always a fairytale — witness the man who was rejected at a Boston Red Sox game this weekend for evidence — but San Francisco Deltas goalkeeper Romuald Peiser took the exercise to a whole new level this weekend, popping the question to his love on the middle of the field and getting a happy answer.
He put a ring on it!
Congrats Romuald and Taylor! pic.twitter.com/woU6TvEX9U

What is even more impressive is that he proposed before the game! We hesitate to consider what might have happened if things hadn’t turned out as he hoped (the Deltas lost 1-0 to the New York Cosmos, by the way, but we’re not going to blame Peiser for the goal allowed). Congrats to him and his fianceé, and here’s hoping their happy memories are just beginning.
