WNT Defeats Haiti 5-0 at Ford Field in Detroit

The World Cup Champion U.S. Women’s National Team continued its Victory Tour with a 5-0 win against Haiti in front of a record crowd of 34,538 at Ford Field. The crowd was the largest to attend a soccer game in the history of the Detroit stadium.

Carli Lloyd struck first for the U.S. in the sixth minute. The 2015 World Cup Golden Ball winner was set up by a Crystal Dunn cross in a prelude of what would come over the next 84 minutes. In the 33rd minute, Dunn again had the assist, finding Christen Press with a near-post cross and she volleyed home for her 25th WNT score. Four minutes later, Lloyd added her second, and would complete her hat trick in the second half.
In the final minutes of the match, Dunn rose up for a header off a cross from Heather O’Reilly to earn her first international goal in her first start of the year and just her second cap of 2015. The teams will travel south for another match-up as the Victory Tour continues in Birmingham, Alabama on Sept. 20. For more information on tickets, click here.

 
Goal Scoring Rundown:
USA – Carli Lloyd (Crystal Dunn) 6th minute:
Crystal Dunn picked up the ball on the right and beat her defender down the line Just before reaching the end line, Dunn whipped a cross into the box. Lloyd out-jumped her defender and for a spectacular header, bouncing it in for first goal of the game. USA 1, HAI 0 SEE GOAL

USA – Christen Press (Crystal Dunn), 33rd minute: Similar to the first goal, Crystal Dunn played creator. She worked a give-and-go with Tobin Heath before moving down the right-hand edge of the box and again curled in a cross that found Christen Press in front of the goal. Press shielded her defender and with re-directed the cross into the net at the near post. USA 2, HAI 0 SEE GOAL

USA – Carli Lloyd (penalty kick) 37th minute: After Christen Press was taken down in the box, the U.S. was awarded a penalty kick. Maps Lloyd powered a perfectly placed shot past the diving ‘keeper and into the right corner for a 3-0 halftime lead. USA 3, HAI 0 

USA – Carli Lloyd (Lauren Holiday) 69th minute: Lauren Holiday drove a perfect ball across the box on the corner kick. Lloyd rose above the pack and sent her header back across the goal, over the Haiti ‘keeper and into the net to complete her hat trick. USA 4, HAI 0 SEE GOAL

USA – Crystal Dunn (Heather O’Reilly) 90+3 minute: In the game’s final seconds Crystal Dunn scored her first career international goal. It came on a cross from Heather O’Reilly. Dunn cut through the box, sliced in front of Abby Wambach and jumped high to power her header home. USA 5, HAI 0 FINAL

Next on the Schedule: The WNT continues the 2015 Victory Tour with a stop in Birmingham, Alabama on Sept. 20 where it will face Haiti at Legion Field.
