The U.S. Women’s National Team is still in the World Cup, actually playing the final match this Sunday, July 5th, but they already have two games scheduled for after the tournament, both against Costa Rica. The first one will be in Pittsburg on August 16th and the second in Tennessee on August 19th.
The 20,668 seats at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga already sold out for the game on August 19th, and it has only been a week since the tickets went on sale. Last time the U.S. played there was in 1997, right after Finley Stadium opened. So there will definitely be a good crowd watching these two games. But, the game in Pittsburg will be a special one for Meghan Klingenberg since she is just from outside the city. The last time the U.S. played in Pittsburg was in 2004 when they won 3-0 against Iceland.
Costa Rica participated in the Women’s World Cup for the first time this year, but they were eliminated in the group stage after tying against Spain and South Korea and losing to Brazil, ending their campaign in the tournament with only 2 points.
The U.S. played Costa Rica last year at the CONCACAF Women’s Championship final and beat the Ticas by 6-0.
No matter what the end result is in this World Cup final, fans that could not go to Canada will now have the chance to watch the team play. However, if the U.S. wins this tittle, these 2 games will be almost like a celebration tour for the American fans.
