Marc Pelosi, who was born in Germany but raised in Sunnyvale, California, signed with the English club Liverpool about 3 years ago, having played with both the U-18 and U-21 teams. He was also the captain for the United States U-17 team during the 2011 World Cup, which is when Liverpool spotted him.
Pelosi started playing in California and continued to play throughout his childhood with the De Anza Force Academy. Even though he was born in Germany, his soccer roots are embedded here in California.
Pelosi is a very versatile player who is able play as a central midfielder, left winger and left back. However, he decided to play as a left midfielder for Liverpool and for the USYNT, which is probably his strongest position. Also, since the San Jose Earthquakes does not have a prospect player for this position, the signing of Pelosi does make sense.
According to sources, Pelosi “could have signed another year at Liverpool, but he missed home and wanted to get more senior team minutes,” and that is one of the reasons why he is looking into coming back to California.
The 20-year-old player suffered a very serious leg injury in 2014 that threrateend to end his soccer career, but now that he is back fit again, he continues to show how promising he is and how much potential he still has.
He would definitely be a great addition to the San Jose Earthquakes youth squad and seems like he would fit really well into the team’s structure.
