The defender just closed a deal with the Tijuano Xolos to be their newest addition. He was recently called up to play for U.S. Men’s National Team in the Gold Cup, and was playing for Puebla in Mexico on a loan from Chiapas before switching clubs.
Orozco is from Orange, California and has played in MLS with the Philadelphia Union, but has been playing in the MX Liga since 2007. At 29 years of age, he is in good shape and will be a strong addition to the new team. He had a really good season with Puebla, playing every match in the season, and was also one of the main players that helped the team from dropping to second division.
Michael is considered Mexican while playing there because of this dual nationality status, so he is not filling a foreign player spot in the Xolos roster. He recently played for the U.S. in the friendly matches against Netherlands and Germany in which the U.S. won both.
There are rumors that the Xolos might be paying between three to four million dollars to have Orozco on the squad. This might be an strategic move form the Mexican team, as U.S. teammates Greg Garza and Joe Corona had just left the club to go to Veracruz and Atlas, respectively.
He was expected to be in Mazatlan by Thursday to start practicing with the new team. He is coming to the Xolos just in time for the Apertura season of 2015. The team from Tijuana has high hopes for Orozco as they want to stand out this season.
