DeAndre Yedlin is the current right fullback for the U.S. Men’s National Team. Yedlin was playing MLS with Seattle Sounders in 2014 before moving to England in the beginning of 2015. At 21 years of age, he was signed to be Tottenham Spurs understudy right back in January of 2015. The English team brought him in largely because of his performance during the World Cup in 2014, but also due to his young age and high growth potential. Recently, news broke that Spurs are planning on signing another more experienced fullback and as such, Yedlin may benefit from going out on loan to further his development.
Mauricio Pochettino, the manager for Spurs commented that Yedlin needs to get more playing time in England to adjust to the Premier League’s style, preferably with a smaller team to start with.
The main option right now looks like Norwich City F.C. who were just promoted to the Premier League. Norwich have a need for quick and speedy players and Yedlin is known for his pace and endurance. If this loan ends up happening, he will be the second Tottenham player to be on loan with Norwich after Kyle Naughton went in 2011.
One of players that Tottenham is closing a deal currently is Kieran Trippier, who is 24 years old. Trippier developed his game at the Manchester City academy and has been the starting right back for Burnley since 2011.
Once this deal is closed, there are going be 5 fullbacks in the Spurs senior team: Kyle Walker, Danny Rose, Ben Davies, Yedlin and now Trippier. That is why chances are high for Yedlin to go on a loan, as he is the youngest and most inexperienced of all of the 5. Ideally, Yedlin goes to Norwich and gains valuable experience playing in the English Premier League that he can take back to his parent club and push for a starting position the following season.
