The U.S. U-15 Boy’s National Team extended its stay in Italy at Torneo Delle Nazioni as the squad has advanced to the semifinals after finishing at the best second place team in the group stage. The U.S. and the five California natives will face Portugal in the semifinals on Saturday, April 29 at 8:00 a.m.

The five California natives on the roster are defender Kenny Nielsen (Pateadores; Irvine), midfielders Gilbert Fuentes (San Jose Earthquakes; Tracy) and Adam Saldana (Real So Cal; Panorama City), and forwards Diego Lopez (FC Golden State; Chino) and Alfonso Ocampo Chavez (Seattle Sounders; Fresno).

The U.S. opened up the tournament (Group C) with a 4-0 thrashing over Slovenia, which was followed with a 2-1 victory over Russia the following day. The U.S. then dropped its third group stage match against England 3-2, but advanced due to having a higher goal differential +4 compared to Austria (Group B) +2.

England finished as the top country is Group C and will face Mexico. The U.S.’ opponent, Portugal, finished first in Group A.

Chavez scored for the U.S. in the first match against Slovenia and Lopez scored in the second match against Russia. U.S. Soccer has yet to update their website for stats from the third match against England.

The third place and championship matches will both be played on Monday, May 1.
